First published in 1665, after it had been initially refused license to publish on the grounds of gross indecency, The English Rogue in revised version sold extrememly well and the bookseller Kirkman published several follow-up volumes. It is unclear if Head assisted with these. Chapter One includes a Canting Vocabulary (underworld slang).
