Sixth edition. Small 8vo. viii, 382pp, tissue-protected frontispiece with facsimile signature. Original green cloth with black decoration and blind, lettering on cover and spine in gilt ( head, tail and edges of spine, and corners a little rubbed). Edges yellowed and a few spots on some pages, mostly on first and last few leaves; otherwise a very good clean copy. ***English-born Powell (1822-68) grew up in Tasmania and later worked for a Launceston merchant and auctioneer before moving to Melbourne in the mid 1840s where he became a successful businessman. The first chapter of his memoir deals with 'Boyhood in Tasmania', and the balance is dominated by colonial business and religious (Wesleyan) affairs.
