ISBN 0909479003 ***Only 750 copies were printed (not stated); the only complete publication of the diary. 'Bobby' Knopwood was with the party led by David Collins which was sent to found a colony on Bass Strait. After an abortive attempt to settle at present-day Sorrento in Port Phillip Bay, Collins moved his party the Derwent River and founded Hobart Town in 1804. Knopwood was the new colony's chaplain (serving also as a magistrate) and he remained in Van Diemen's Land until his death in 1838. Amongst his affects that were sold at this time was his manuscript diary in six volumes: five were purchased by George Stokell and these eventually found their way into the Mitchell Library (these five comprise the text of this publication). The other volume, covering the years 1808-13, was apparently bought by T.G. Gregson, but its whereabouts are now unknown.
