Ordering from Astrolabe Booksellers


When you have found a book you would like to order, add it to the shopping cart. You will then have the opportunity to continue shopping - returning you to the last-viewed page - or go to the checkout to complete the purchase. 


At the checkout page you will be asked to log in (if you are a previous customer with an account), create an account - or just enter your email address if you don't wish to open an account. Having an account simply means that your contact details - NOT your payment details - are stored on the website for future reference.


If you have logged in or created an account, your address details will be displayed and you can move to the next step (by clicking the 'next' or 'continue' buttons at the foot of each page). If you have chosen not to open an account, you will need to enter address details at the next page and confirm these at the following one. Postage and payment options will then be displayed - select those you wish to use and then complete the order. You will receive an automatic confirmation message, and then a subsequent message from us once the order has been processed. Note that you can select 'request a quote' if you wish to confirm the postage amount before payment is made.


Payment Methods Accepted


Our preferred method of payment is by direct bank deposit - our account details are below, but we will also supply these in our reply to orders choosing this option. We are also happy to accept Visa, Mastercard or American Express, PayPal, money orders in Australian dollars, and cheques from established customers. Purchasers can of course collect books from the shop and pay in cash - and for any enquiries about other arrangements select 'request a quote' as the payment option. Our prices are in Australian dollars (AUD) and include all relevant taxes.

We have quoted postage (shipping) rates – for ordinary and expedited delivery – that will appear with your order. These are based on an the cost of sending an average-sized parcel. The actual cost of postage varies according to the size and weight of the parcel and its destination, and the costs of international parcels are also subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Furthermore, postage charges change with an unnerving frequency, although we do endeavour to keep our quoted rates up to date.  


All this means that we may have to ask you for additional postage if your order is for a book, or set of books, that is larger or heavier than average - but no amount in excess of our quoted rates will be charged without your approval. If your parcel can be sent below the quoted rates we will reduce the postage accordingly. International rates will also be reduced as appropriate. 


Unless otherwise stated, none of our quoted rates include extra services such as signature on delivery or insurance. Please enquire if you would like any extras and we will advise the cost.


For overseas parcels, we normally use Australia Post's Standard Air Mail (6 or so working days, includes tracking). Economy Air is cheaper, but not by much and does not include tracking, so we prefer the other option. Sea Mail is cheaper again - but again not always by much and it is very slow. Please enquire if you would like your book/s sent at the cheapest rate available, or if you would like us to use a Courier service (a quote for this can be provided on request).
