Original brown cloth, gilt spine titles; slight indentation halfway up the fore-edges of both boards. Top edges gilt, the others uncut. The map has a long clean tear neatly closed with archival tape. A very good clean copy. ***Ferguson 8846. Originally published in French in 1783 (edited, from Lieut. Julien Crozet's papers, by the Abbé Rochon) - the only printed primary source for the expedition of the ill-fated Marion Dufresne, the first Europeans to make contact with the Tasmanian Aborigines. Crozet assumed command after the massacre of Marion and 26 of the crew by Maoris at the Bay of Islands.
