With photo-etched illustrations by Mrs E.M. Boyd, Mr R. Andre, and the Author. First edition. Small 4to. 64pp, b&w frontis and illustrated throughout (4 by LAM), decorated endpapers. Original cloth-backed papered boards, decorated with waratah motif (colour) on the upper, singing frog on the lower. Extremities a little rubbed with the corners showing the board, the cloth spine still bright red. A child owner has written his name (and '1920') in pencil across the head margin of the front cover and on the front endpaper; he, or another child at much that same time, has written '29. Frogs. 40. Jack the Beanstalk. 57. Kuccooburra [sic]' in ink at the top corner of the lower board (these relate to illustrations and/or verses in the book) and drawn a farm scene (fence, trees, cottage, horses, carts and people) on the rear endpaper. The interior of the book has fortunately escaped this young indexer/artist's attention and is in very good clean condition. The additions notwithstanding, a nice copy; its condition much better than usual for this title. ***The verses first appeared in the author's Grandmamma's Verse Book for Young Australia (1878, unillustrated).
