ISBN 0646426621 ***Occupying the very north-western corner of Tasmania, 'Woolnorth' was established in 1829 by, and is still owned by, the Van Diemen's Land Company. Its history has all the elements of early Vandemonian / Tasmanian history: conflict with (and brutality towards) aborigines; convict and indentured labour; conflict with the Lieutenant-Governor in Hobart Town; and the difficulties (natural and political) of establishing an isolated agricultural enterprise in the wilderness. The much-reduced property is still owned by the Company and now runs dairy cattle, as well as being home to an important air quality monitoring station and a large windfarm.
