Varieties of Vice-Regal Life (Van Diemen's Land section).

4to. 298pp, illus. Soft covers. A very good clean copy. ISBN 1862951675 ***Denison was Lt-Governor of VDL 1847-55. An opinionated military engineer, he argued for the continuation of transportation and resisted the establishment of self-government. His two-volume account of his colonial service (largely composed of letters, as often as not written by his wife) was published in 1869, and contained 'much valuable information…presented in an unusual and lively manner'. This volume reproduces the Tasmanian section, with the addition of scholarly notes and commentaries. Only 250 copies were printed.
