With numerous illustrations, colour plates, panoramas and maps from original surveys. Two volumes. Small 4to. [I] xxxviii, 546pp, plates I-V (3 folding panoramas, 2 coloured lithographs with titled tissue guards), large folding map, photographic plates 1-154; lacking the coloured frontis (the titled tissue guard is present). [II] xxii, 518pp (last blank), frontis portrait of the author, plates VI-XIII (3 folding panoramas, 5 coloured lithographs with titled tissue guards), photographic plates 155-332 (b&w), 2 folding coloured maps; index to both volumes. Original brown cloth, gilt device on the upper boards, spines lettered in gilt; extremities rubbed, both volumes neatly recased. Top edges gilt, the others uncut and a little foxed. Occasional foxing to the pages but generally clean. Two of the folding maps have closed clean tears extending the gutter, not affecting the images. A good to very good set, although lacking the frontis to the first volume.
